Aloha! Are you planning a trip to Hawaii? With so many breathtaking islands to choose from, deciding where to go can feel overwhelming. Each Hawaiian Island offers a unique vibe, from lush rainforests and volcanic adventures to romantic beaches and luxury wellness escapes.
In this guide, we’ll help you choose the best Hawaiian island to visit based on your travel style. Whether you’re a first-time visitor, adventure-seeker, or honeymooner, there’s a perfect island waiting for you.
Get to Know the Hawaiian Islands
Oʻahu – Best for Culture and Convenience
Known as “The Heart of Hawaii,” Oʻahu blends city energy with island beauty. Think Waikiki Beach, Pearl Harbor, and the North Shore’s legendary surf.
Maui – Best for Romantic Getaways and Variety
Maui is ideal for couples, families, or anyone looking for a mix of experiences: beach days, luxury resorts, great shopping, scenic drives, and lush landscapes.
Kaua’i – Best for Nature and Serenity
Nicknamed “The Garden Isle,” Kaua’i is perfect for travelers seeking unspoiled beauty, jungle hikes, and dramatic coastlines, like the Na Pali Coast.
Big Island – Best for Adventure and Diversity
The Big Island of Hawaii offers something for every explorer: volcanoes, black sand beaches, stargazing, and diverse microclimates.
Lana’i – Best for Privacy and Luxury
If you’re after a secluded, ultra-luxurious experience, Lanai delivers five-star accommodations, off-road adventures, and total peace.
Molokaʻi – Best for Authentic Hawaiian Culture
Molokaʻi is the most traditional island, offering a genuine cultural experience and a slower pace perfect for disconnecting.

A Guide to Picking the Perfect Getaway
Why Italy, you ask? Why not Italy?! Italy is a classic for good reason. It’s a destination so many of my clients want to explore for the first time or return to again and again. And there’s no better way to help plan the perfect itinerary than to experience it firsthand. So, I packed my bags and headed off on a whirlwind, week-long trip to Rome, Florence, and Venice.
I partnered with Travelive and WTB Hotels to craft a seamless itinerary filled with beautiful hotels, curated experiences, and a few delightful surprises. Here’s a day-by-day look at what I experienced.
My Italy Travel Itinerary: Rome, Florence, and Venice
Day 1: Rome Tour by Golf Cart
On the first day, we all arrived early in the morning. To help us beat jet lag, we did a Rome Tour by Golf Cart. I always recommend doing some sort of city tour on the day of arrival. It helps you get your bearings and figure out where you want to spend more time. While on this tour, we got to see some famous spots like the Trevi Fountain, the Spanish Steps, the Pantheon, Piazza Navona, and the Colosseum.
Day 2: The Best of Rome in One Day
Typically, we would break this tour up into two or three days. But since we had very limited time in Rome, we packed it all into one day. The day consisted of:
The Vatican Museums and St. Peter’s Basilica 2025 is the year of Jubilee in the Catholic Church. Once every 25 years, the Pope opens the Holy Door of St. Peter’s Basilica in the Vatican. Many groups and individuals make the pilgrimage to experience this holy time. Whether or not you’re Catholic, visiting the Vatican is a magical experience. Doing so during the Jubilee and being able to walk through the Holy Door was very special.
Street Food Tour I love the Street Food Tour we did. We tried restaurants and foods I would have never thought to try. I was worried it was going to be a ton of food and it would end up being wasted, but we tried small dishes at three different restaurants, which was perfect. One of my favorites was the fried artichoke at Sheva in the Jewish Ghetto.
Colosseum Express Tour Since I’m not a huge history buff, the one-hour express tour of the Colosseum was just the right length. The Colosseum is, of course, a huge tourist attraction, but the history behind it and the fact that it’s still standing today is quite mind-boggling.
Day 3: From Rome to Florence via Orvieto
Today, on our private transfer from Rome to Florence, we spent about 4 hours exploring the picturesque hilltop town of Orvieto, located in Umbria. Umbria is a wonderful alternative to Tuscany, an easy day trip from Rome. We walked the whole town, did some shopping, and had a wonderful lunch at Ristorante Maurizio. I highly recommend Orvieto for a day trip or to spend a few nights at Palazzo Petrvs for a slower, more relaxed pace.
Day 4: Exploring Tuscany – San Gimignano and Siena Tour with Wine Tasting
Today was one of my favorite days. I loved getting out into the Tuscan countryside.
San Gimignano is a historic Tuscan town encircled by a 13th-century wall. I’m glad we visited this town first and earlier in the morning. It’s a smaller town and can get packed with tourists quickly. Make sure to take time to just explore the streets, shops, and restaurants here!
In between San Gimignano and Siena, we had a wine tasting and lunch at a nearby winery called Podere la Marronaia.
Our final stop was Siena, a much larger medieval city. It’s well known for its historic city center and Palio horse races. I highly recommend taking a tour to learn about the history and hidden gems.
Day 5: Walking Tour of Florence with the Academy Museum and Transfer to Venice
Today we did a walking tour of Florence and stopped at the Academy Museum to see the famous David by Michelangelo.
After a morning of walking, pizza and gelato were a must! Make sure to grab the salted caramel gelato at La Sorbettiera when you’re in Florence!
For our transfer from Florence to Venice, we took the train to be able to experience this type of transfer. We went with business class for extra comfort and convenience for the 2-hour train ride from Florence to Venice.
Once we arrived in Venice, we caught our water taxi to the hotel. Many transfers in Venice end up being water boats due to all the canals! It is a really fun way to show up at your hotel in style.
Day 6: A Day in Venice – City Tour, Food & Wine Tour, and a Gondola Ride
Today was a full day of experiencing Venice. Typically, I wouldn’t recommend doing all of this in one day, but with our short time frame, we packed it all in. We started with a Venice City Tour. It’s easy to get lost in Venice, so it was nice to have a guide show us around and share a little history. Then we enjoyed another food and wine tour. You just cannot get sick of all the delicious food and wine in Italy! It’s definitely my favorite country for food. And finally, we ended with a classic gondola ride. Very touristy, of course, but a peaceful and enjoyable way to see Venice from the waterways. I’d definitely recommend experiencing a gondola ride in Venice at least once!
Where to Stay in Italy – Rome, Florence, and Venice
One of our partners for this trip was WTB Hotels. While our specialty is in luxury travel, many of our clients prefer to spend their money on experiences rather than splurging on higher-end hotels in every destination on their Italian adventure. WTB Hotels are perfect for this situation. They are 4-star plus quality hotels located in prestigious locations in Rome, Florence, and Venice.
While on this trip, we got the opportunity to stay at Hotel L’Orologio Roma, Hotel L’Orologio Firenze, Hotel Santa Maria Novella, and Hotel L’Orologio Venezia. The location and quality of service reaches that of 5-star hotels. When you stay at these unique properties, make sure to ask about the history and stories behind the designs. It’s a special treat, especially for those interested in horology.

My Top 3 Recommendations from My Trip to Italy
Set expectations early. Italy is busy all the time, no matter when you visit. It is especially busy from April through October. Italy is the number one travel destination for US travelers, so it’s hard to avoid the crowds. As long as you have set your expectations, it’s not an issue.
Dine at Trattorias By far, my favorite part about visiting Italy is the food. In each city, we had the opportunity to dine at a local Trattoria. Trattorias are less formal restaurants. They have a very homey and welcoming feel. They are family-run and serve regional dishes. We dined at Ristorante Lagana in Rome, 13 Gobbi in Florence, and Casa Cappella in Venice.
Add More Time If you want to do a similar itinerary to what I did (Rome, Florence, and Venice), add a day to each city. My preference would be to add an additional 2 days to Florence since there are so many day trip options from Florence, like Cinque Terre and Tuscany.

I’ve talked about doing this for years, but that was it, all talk. But finally, I booked a trip to a wellness retreat. My husband and I talked for a while about how it would be helpful to start off the new year with a few days at a wellness retreat. A great way to reset, get focused, and start the year rejuvenated and restored. Of course, life always gets in the way. It was always something, from having too much work, financial strain, or big life changes like having a baby or moving across the country that held us back from ever making this dream a reality. Well, not this year! A friend of mine shared about Wild Rice Retreat a few years ago. It’s located near Bayfield in the very northern part of Wisconsin. Ever since it’s been taking up space in the back of my mind as a great idea.
Last year, my husband and I decided to make a big life change and move back to Wisconsin from Colorado to be closer to family. It is very important to us that our son and any future children grow up around our close family and friends. I knew we had this big change coming at the end of the year. Along with wondering what to get the hubby for Christmas and stressing about moving, the idea of a wellness retreat getaway popped back up in my head. Specifically the Wild Rice Retreat. What better way to get reacquainted with our home state while recharging from a big move and starting a new year fresh than spending a few days at a retreat in a part of the state neither of us has ever been? So, I put aside all the excuses, found a babysitter for our son, and booked a stay at Wild Rice Retreat. Our first annual wellness retreat getaway!
My Experience at A Wellness Retreat
I’m not going to lie, the first night was pretty tough. We are in the middle of selling our house in Colorado, so the whole 5-hour drive up we were negotiating concessions and talking to our realtor. This is also the first time my husband and I have been away from our son together for an extended period of time, so I was also missing the little guy a lot. I also decided to take the four full days off of work and not check any emails or social media. As a solopreneur in the heart of the busy season, this was HARD. So I’m stressed from the process of selling a house, mom-guilting about leaving my son, and business owner-guilting about not immediately responding to clients.
Then we get to Wild Rice Retreat and it’s in the middle of the woods next to Lake Superior. Incredibly gorgeous but also so silent and I started to feel really lonely, even though my husband was there. Talk about ALL the emotions! Without technology to distract me, it really gave me time to sit in these feelings and realize how much I really put self-care to the side. We talk about all these “guilts”, from mom-guilt to wife-guilt, business owner-guilt, and more. But do we ever talk about self-guilt? Meaning, do I ever feel guilty about not making time for myself? Nope. Definitely not. Here I am finally taking a few dedicated days to myself and all I can feel is guilt for not being there for everyone else right now. Clearly, I needed this time away. I can’t serve everyone else from a cup that isn’t full.
The next day, we woke up and participated in a yoga class in the morning. I love yoga and how much it grounds me. Doing this class finally helped me settle into the retreat. I felt so much better after that class and stopped feeling guilty for being there and started focusing on relaxing and recharging myself. I haven’t had this much time to just sit and read, stare off into space, daydream, and explore without ANY other obligations in as long as I can remember. What a blessing to have this opportunity. This is exactly what I needed to reset and get ready for what is going to be another amazing, busy, fun-filled year!
This retreat was such a great reminder that I need to make time for myself. It’s important and it’s not selfish. I have an amazing support system, from my husband to my parents, in-laws, friends, and colleagues who are here to help support me.
An annual wellness retreat is definitely going to be a priority moving forward as well as continuing daily self-care rituals, like meditation, yoga, and being present.
The Importance of Going to a Retreat Resort
I want to note how important I think it is to actually leave your house and go to a new setting for a wellness break, like a wellness retreat resort. You can easily say you’ll spend a day at home not checking email or social media to recharge. But it feels completely different when you remove yourself from your everyday life.
When you’re home, the never-ending to-do list will still be in the back of your mind. You could quickly just do some laundry or pay some bills. But when you go to a different place, you’re removing the everyday stress that piles on your mind. You don’t have to worry about doing the dishes, planning and making meals, or cleaning. When you’re away, you can truly disconnect and focus on recharging without the everyday guilt of your to-do list being front of mind.
Additional Wellness Retreats On My Must-Visit List
When I first came up with the idea to do a wellness retreat getaway at the start of each year, I came up with an ever-growing list of hotels I’d want to visit. Here is my current list:
Canyon Ranch – Arizona, Massachusetts, California, and Texas
I always want to add more to my list, so please email me with any wellness retreats or wellness resorts you have visited or are on your list!
Are you ready to book a wellness retreat getaway?
While I am obviously a big proponent of taking advantage of a wellness retreat gateway, it can be very overwhelming to find the right one for you. Let me take that stress off your plate. Let’s work together to find the ideal wellness retreat for you, one that will take your self-care journey to the next level. If you have been like me and keep putting this trip off, email me or fill out our travel inquiry form so we can make this important self-care trip a reality for you!

Our personal favorite is the layout of the overwater bungalows at the Four Seasons Resort Bora Bora. They are slightly smaller than the St. Regis Bora Bora, starting at 1,080 square feet, but the footprint allows for optimal views from every room indoors. If you enjoy taking full advantage of baths, Four Seasons is where you’re going to want to be. Most overwater bungalows tuck the bathtubs in the back of the bungalow with no views. Not at the Four Seasons. The large bathtub is positioned right near the terrace with full-length windows that open to amazing views. In addition, the full-length terrace provides great outdoor space. The overall aesthetics are light and airy with a welcoming vibe for the ultimate vacation relaxation.

What sets them apart: Closest views of Mt. Otemanu
Out of all the 5-star resorts in Bora Bora, The InterContinental Bora Bora Resort Thalasso Spa is located the closest to Mt. Otumanu, which makes it appear the largest here. It is a magnificent view, especially from the overwater bungalows at this property. The InterContinental Bora Bora Resort Thalasso Spa also knows that travelers coming to Bora Bora want an overwater bungalow, so that is the only accommodation type they offer.

What sets them apart: The most private plunge pools
Out of all the resorts in Bora Bora, Conrad Bora Bora Nui has the most overwater bungalow options with private plunge pools. If views of Mt. Otemanu are your priority, we wouldn’t recommend Conrad Bora Bora Nui. Based on its location, it has very limited views of Mt. Otemanu. There are only 4 overwater bungalows with a view of Mt. Otemanu, which makes availability very limited and prices high. If you would like your own private plunge pool with your overwater bungalow, Conrad Bora Bora Nui has a lot of options with great ocean and sunset views.

Le Bora Bora by Pearl Resorts
What sets them apart: Most affordable
The first four resorts listed are all considered 5-star properties. Le Bor Bora by Pearl Resorts is a beautifully renovated 4-star resort, which makes it the most affordable out of these five options. Also, it is the closest transfer from the airport with a 10-minute boat ride. If you’re looking to stay in an overwater bungalow at a lower price point, Le Bora Bora is a great option.

Here is a breakdown of the five main hotels to help you choose the best resort in Bora Bora for your dream vacation.
Conrad Bora Bora Nui – Best option in Bora Bora for the most overwater bungalows with pools
Perfect For: Younger couples wanting to stay in an overwater bungalow without a Mt. Otemanu view and a resort with a lively atmosphere.
Why Choose The Conrad
Out of all the resorts in Bora Bora, Conrad Bora Bora Nui has the most overwater bungalows with pools. If an overwater bungalow with a private pool is at the top of your bucket list, Conrad Bora Bora Nui is going to offer you the most options. However, Conrad Bora Bora is located on its own motu in the southwest part of Bora Bora. Due to its location, there are only four overwater bungalows that have a view of Mt. Otemanu. If you want this view, you’re better off staying at another resort.
What Sets Conrad Bora Bora Apart from Other Resorts
It offers the most overwater bungalows with pools.
A lively atmosphere throughout the resort.
The best infinity pool overlooking the beach and ocean.
Only floating helipad in French Polynesia, which allows its guests the ability to arrive or leave the resort by private helicopter.

Perfect For: Couples and families looking for relaxed luxury.
Why Choose The Four Seasons Resort
Four Seasons as a brand prides itself on its service. Four Seasons Resort Bora Bora is no different. With the Polynesian culture being very hospitable, they take this to a whole other level. The second you arrive at Four Seasons Resort Bora Bora, you’re going to feel like you’re home. The entire staff provides outstanding service. One tiny example is when we asked for a golf cart to come drive us to the spa. We noticed the driver arrived at our bungalow about five minutes early. However, he waited in the golf cart and didn’t knock on our door until the exact time we requested so he wouldn’t disturb us. It’s those tiny details and extended courtesies that set Four Seasons Resort Bora Bora apart from other resorts.
What Sets Four Seasons Resort Bora Bora Apart from Other Resorts
Their people and service throughout your stay.
The property went through a complete enhancement recently so every part of the resort is top-notch, all the way down to the meticulous landscaping.
All of the restaurants, beach, and pool face Mt. Otemanu making for a great location with unobstructed views.
A swimmable inner lagoon with hundreds of species of fish and coral.
Exclusive activity partnerships on-property with experts guiding guests in marine biology (WiseOceans), scuba (DIVEASY), and tennis (PBI).
My personal opinion is that Four Seasons Resort Bora Bora takes the prize. I personally like the layout and aesthetic of the overwater bungalows best, it’s a great fit for families and couples, has amazing views of Mt. Otemanu, and it’s a great balance of relaxation, romance, activities, and entertainment.

Does a 14,000-square-foot spa sound good to you? If enjoying the spa during your vacation in French Polynesia is top of the list, Intercontinental Bora Bora Resort and Thalasso Spa is where you want to be. The Deep Ocean Spa uses water drawn from the ocean. There are glass-bottomed treatment rooms that offer views of the lagoon and wildlife while being pampered. Finally, the multi-sensory outdoor spa has stunning views of Mt. Otemanu. This is a spa lovers paradise.
What Sets Intercontinental Bora Bora Resort and Thalasso Spa Apart from Other Resorts
Most unique spa treatment options.
Closest resort to Mt Otemanu out of the 5* resorts so it appears the largest here.
Largest wine cellar in all of French Polynesia.

Perfect For: Families and couples wanting a longer stay in Bora Bora.
Why Choose The St. Regis
The St. Regis Bora Bora has the largest overwater bungalows in all of Bora Bora starting at 1550 square feet. It is also the most expansive resort covering 44 acres. Due to the size of the villas and overall property, St. Regis Bora Bora is the best resort for longer stays. With such large accommodations, there is enough room to spread out and feel comfortable. Being so spread out, the resort has plenty of things to explore and experience without getting bored for a week or longer.
What Sets The St. Regis Bora Bora Apart from Other Resorts
Largest overwater bungalows in Bora Bora.
Adults-only pool.
All suites have butler service.
Most spread out resort in Bora Bora so each villa gets its own bike.
Lagoonarium for calm snorkeling and stunning views of Mt. Otemanu.

Perfect for: Couples wanting an authentic Polynesian experience in Bora Bora at a more affordable price.
Why Choose Le Bora Bora by Pearl Resorts
While the majority of luxury resort accommodations in Bora Bora are 5* hotels, Le Bora Bora is an amazing alternative option as a 4* luxury resort with an authentic Polynesian experience. They recently went through a renovation and their entire property is beautiful and high-quality. If the price point is the main concern, you can’t go wrong with a stay at Le Bora Bora by Pearl Resorts.
What Sets Le Bora Bora by Pearl Resorts Apart from Other Resorts
Recent renovations make this 4* a top-notch experience at a more affordable option.
Located in its own motu on the northwest part of Bora Bora. This location is the closest to the airport and has the least amount of boat traffic compared to the 5* resorts on the eastern side of Bora Bora.
Authentic Polynesian experience with design and decor.

Even before our stay at The Brando, there was no question that this resort was the epitome of luxury. Just look at a few photos and you’ll wonder if a place like this truly exists on Earth. Well, thankfully it does exist and it’s the best luxury island resort we have had the opportunity to experience. If you are looking for a luxury private island experience for your honeymoon, anniversary, romantic getaway, or family vacation, look no further. The Brando will meet and exceed all your private island expectations.
A Quick History
Before diving into everything The Brando offers, it’s important to understand how it came to be. Marlon Brando first saw the island of Tetiaroa while filming Mutiny on the Bounty in the early 1960s. He ended up buying the island and dreamed of building a resort that would focus on sustainability and stewardship. Marlon helped with the vision for The Brando, but unfortunately, he passed away before his vision came to life in 2014. Read more about the interesting history and Marlon Brando’s vision for the island HERE.
What It’s Like to Stay at the Brando, A Private Island Experience
Getting to the Island
To get to The Brando, you start your short journey in the private departure lounge at the Tahiti airport. Then you board a private plane with a few other guests for a quick 20-minute plane ride to Tetiaroa. The views from above are breathtaking. When you get off the plane, you are welcomed with music, which is actually a blessing welcoming you to the island.
Accommodations at The Brando
There are only 35 private villas on the entire island, which lends itself to incredible peacefulness, quiet, and privacy. While staying at The Brando, you can choose between a 1-bedroom, 2-bedroom, 3-bedroom, or residence villa. The villas are either located on Mermaid Bay, which is great for calm water, soft white sandy beaches, and sunrises, or Turtle Beach, which is perfect for snorkeling and sunsets. All villas include its own private plunge pool overlooking the beach and ocean. The architecture is designed to provide the highest level of privacy. When you are sitting on your back deck, you can’t see the other villas around you. The accommodations at The Brando make you feel like you are on your own private island.
All-Inclusive Luxury, A Private Island Experience
The Brando is the one true all-inclusive resort option in French Polynesia. Unless you’re doing a cruise around the islands, there are no other options for all-inclusive. And it’s definitely not your typical all-inclusive resort that you may initially think of when hearing the word “all-inclusive”. To The Brando, all-inclusive means not having to worry about a thing the minute you arrive. You know you will receive pristine service, the best food and drink, and incredible accommodations. Some additional costs include the spa, the shops, and private, customized excursions. There is an option to only book the villa and breakfast option instead of the villa and all-inclusive package, but it just doesn’t make sense to do so.
What Makes The Brando Special
We could talk about many things that make The Brando special, including the beauty of the island, the quality of service, the staff, the luxury, and relaxation. But what truly makes The Brando special is the dedication to sustainability. The Brando is singularly focused on one mission: zero carbon. It is beautiful to see in action how they consistently respect the environment and Polynesian heritage. At this point, it’s just the way of life here. They want the island to leave an everlasting impact on each guest, but to leave no trace on the atoll itself.
When you visit the island, make sure to join their Green Tour to understand how much they are doing to be sustainable. You can also view their efforts on their website HERE. Some of The Brando’s sustainability efforts include renewable energy that meets 60% of the energy requirements, being the first resort in the world to be awarded the LEED Platinum Certification, implementing a Sea Water Air Conditioning (SWAC) system that cuts energy consumption for air condition up to 90% compared to traditional methods, and creating an intense compost and organic gardening system. These sustainability efforts are just the tip of the iceberg for The Brando and the island of Tetiaroa.
How Long to Stay at The Brando
If it was possible, we wouldn’t ever leave The Brando! However, amazing vacations always must come to an end. There is a 2-night minimum when staying at The Brando. We recommend staying at least 3 nights to have the opportunity to experience the island and have time to unwind and relax. If you can stay even longer, definitely do it!
One important tip when staying at The Brando is to make sure it’s your last stop on your French Polynesia itinerary. There are many other luxurious and wonderful resorts throughout the Islands of Tahiti, but none can fully compare to the experience of The Brando.
Type of Traveler Who Would Enjoy This Private Island Experience
While we believe everyone could benefit from the relaxation that the private island experience of The Brando offers, it may not be for everyone. The Brando is for the traveler who wants privacy, stillness, quiet, relaxation, and to disconnect from the stress of everyday life. It is for the person who wants the private island experience where they may not see another guest the entire stay. If you’re a traveler who’s looking for a ton of entertainment, socialization, and energy, The Brando is not for you.
What Not to Miss on Your Trip to The Brando
Here are some of our favorite experiences during our short stay at The Brando.
Spa
Dinner at Nami Teppanyaki
Meeting other guests at lunch at Bob’s Bar, Marlon Brando’s original bar
Tetiaroa Ultimate Tour
Green Tour
Biking around the island
Sunset or sunrise in your private plunge pool
Stargazing at night

Just Back: A Travel Advisor’s Trip to Italy – Rome, Florence & Venice
/in Europe, Just BackWhy Italy, you ask?
2025 is the year of Jubilee in the Catholic Church.
I love the Street Food Tour we did. We tried restaurants and foods I would have never thought to try. I was worried it was going to be a ton of food and it would end up being wasted, but we tried small dishes at three different restaurants, which was perfect. One of my favorites was the fried artichoke at Sheva in the Jewish Ghetto.
Since I’m not a huge history buff, the one-hour express tour of the Colosseum was just the right length.
Italy is busy all the time, no matter when you visit. It is especially busy from April through October. Italy is the number one travel destination for US travelers, so it’s hard to avoid the crowds. As long as you have set your expectations, it’s not an issue.
By far, my favorite part about visiting Italy is the food.
If you want to do a similar itinerary to what I did (Rome, Florence, and Venice), add a day to each city. My preference would be to add an additional 2 days to Florence since there are so many day trip options from Florence, like Cinque Terre and Tuscany.

Just Back: A Wellness Retreat
/in Just BackI’ve talked about doing this for years, but that was it, all talk.

How to Choose the Best Overwater Bungalow in Bora Bora
/in French Polynesia, Honeymoon, HotelsStaying in an overwater bungalow is a dream for many and rightly so! Our recommendation is to experience these accommodations in their birthplace – the French Polynesian Islands, specifically the iconic Bora Bora. With so many options to choose from, how do you pick the best overwater bungalow for your vacation? We’re here to help! Below are the top five luxury resorts in Bora Bora and the differences between the overwater bungalows.
If you want help planning and coordinating the logistics for your vacation to Bora Bora, we would love to help. Fill out our travel inquiry form HERE and we will be in touch.
The Best Overwater Bungalows in Bora Bora
Do you want to go to Bora Bora specifically to experience staying in an overwater bungalow? If so, it’s important to know the differences between them so you can pick the right one for your vacation. If you want to know what makes each resort unique, you can read our blog post on How to Choose the Best Resort in Bora Bora.
St. Regis Bora Bora Resort
What sets them apart: Largest overwater bungalows in Bora Bora
St. Regis Bora Bora has the largest overwater bungalows in Bora Bora. They start in size at 1,549 square feet and get larger from there. The overwater bungalows at St. Regis Bora Bora Resort are perfect for travelers who like to spread out and have plenty of space on vacation. They are also ideal when taking an extended vacation due to the size and space provided.
How to Book A Stay at St. Regis Bora Bora:
Four Seasons Resort Bora Bora Overwater Bungalows
What sets them apart: Separated into three spaces (bedroom, bathroom, living room) all with incredible views
How to Book A Stay at Four Seasons Resort Bora Bora:
InterContinental Bora Bora Resort Thalasso Spa
What sets them apart: Closest views of Mt. Otemanu
Out of all the 5-star resorts in Bora Bora, The InterContinental Bora Bora Resort Thalasso Spa is located the closest to Mt. Otumanu, which makes it appear the largest here. It is a magnificent view, especially from the overwater bungalows at this property. The InterContinental Bora Bora Resort Thalasso Spa also knows that travelers coming to Bora Bora want an overwater bungalow, so that is the only accommodation type they offer.
How to Book A Stay at Intercontinental Bora Bora Thalasso Spa:
Conrad Bora Bora Nui Overwater Bungalows
How to Book A Stay at Conrad Bora Bora Nui:
Le Bora Bora by Pearl Resorts
What sets them apart: Most affordable
The first four resorts listed are all considered 5-star properties. Le Bor Bora by Pearl Resorts is a beautifully renovated 4-star resort, which makes it the most affordable out of these five options. Also, it is the closest transfer from the airport with a 10-minute boat ride. If you’re looking to stay in an overwater bungalow at a lower price point, Le Bora Bora is a great option.

The Five Best Resorts in Bora Bora
Currently, there are five main resorts in Bora Bora. The Five-Star resorts include Conrad Bora Bora Nui, Four Seasons Resort Bora Bora, Intercontinental Bora Bora Resort Thalasso Spa, and St. Regis Bora Bora Resort. The only Four-Star luxury resort in Bora Bora is Le Bora Bora by Pearl Resorts. There is a new Westin being built next to The St. Regis that is set to open in the second half of 2024. Stay tuned for details on that property!
How to Book A Stay at Conrad Bora Bora Nui:
Four Seasons Resort Bora Bora – Best option in Bora Bora for service
My personal opinion is that Four Seasons Resort Bora Bora takes the prize. I personally like the layout and aesthetic of the overwater bungalows best, it’s a great fit for families and couples, has amazing views of Mt. Otemanu, and it’s a great balance of relaxation, romance, activities, and entertainment.
How to Book A Stay at Four Seasons Resort Bora Bora:
Intercontinental Bora Bora Resort and Thalasso Spa – Best option in Bora Bora for the spa
Perfect for: Spa lovers.
Why Choose The Intercontinental
How to Book A Stay at Intercontinental Bora Bora Thalasso Spa:
The St. Regis Bora Bora – Best option in Bora Bora for longer stays
How to Book A Stay at St. Regis Bora Bora:
Le Bora Bora by Pearl Resorts – The best 4* hotel with an authentic experience
Perfect for: Couples wanting an authentic Polynesian experience in Bora Bora at a more affordable price.
Why Choose Le Bora Bora by Pearl Resorts
While the majority of luxury resort accommodations in Bora Bora are 5* hotels, Le Bora Bora is an amazing alternative option as a 4* luxury resort with an authentic Polynesian experience. They recently went through a renovation and their entire property is beautiful and high-quality. If the price point is the main concern, you can’t go wrong with a stay at Le Bora Bora by Pearl Resorts.

The Brando: A Private Island Experience
/in French Polynesia, HotelsEven before our stay at The Brando, there was no question that this resort was the epitome of luxury.
